Policy for Out-of-County Cards

There shall be two types of cards for people living outside Codington County but within South Dakota: a family card and a senior card. All costs for these cards shall be rounded to the nearest whole dollar. The cost of a family card will be based on the per capita cost paid by residents of Watertown. The cost of a senior card will be based on 78% of the cost of a family card.

For the purpose of determining who shall be eligible for what type of card the library will use the following definitions. A senior is defined as any person 55 years or older. A family is defined as head of household and all dependents living at home for whom a federal tax deduction may be claimed.

The purchase of a family card makes all children in the family eligible for library programs offered for their age group.

A second senior card may be issued at the time of purchase for no additional charge if both husband and wife are 55 years of age or older.

Visitors to our area who reside outside of South Dakota and who will be staying less than ninety-two (92) days may be issued a temporary card. A temporary card may have only two items checked out at any time. The fee for a temporary card will be equal to the cost of a family card plus ten (10) dollars. If all materials that have been checked out are returned in good condition and on time prior to closing on the 90th day the fee will be refunded to the visitor. Refunds not collected by the ninety-second (92nd) day will be retained.
